Asian vs European Odds: A Quick Explainer for Busy Readers

If you bet on sports, you'll encounter Asian and European odds. Here's a quick explainer to help you read them.
Understanding the formats
European odds, also called decimal odds, show the total payout per unit staked, including your stake. For example, odds of 2.50 mean a ₱100 bet returns ₱250 (₱150 profit plus ₱100 stake). Asian odds, or Hong Kong odds, show profit only. So odds of 1.50 mean a ₱100 bet yields ₱150 profit, and you get your stake back, totaling ₱250. The conversion is simple: European odds = Asian odds + 1.
Why it matters
Knowing the difference helps you compare odds across sites. European odds are common in the Philippines, but some Asian markets use Asian odds. The higher the odds, the higher the potential payout, but also the lower the implied probability. Use this knowledge to make informed bets and spot value. Always check which format a site uses before betting.
